Veterans Day Ceremonies
Veterans Day is an official United States holiday that honors people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. It is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11th. There are a number of Veterans Day activities occurring locally.
A Veterans Day Commemoration will be held in the Reading Garden Lounge of the Cincinnati Public Library. The library is located at 800 Vine Street Cincinnati Ohio 45202. Congressman Brad R. Wenstrup, who is also a physician and an Army Lieutenant Colonel will be the keynote speaker. The 60th Veterans Day Commemoration also will feature the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Pipes and Drums, the lighting of the Flame of Remembrance, music by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s Brass Trio, a presentation of Memorial Wreaths and the playing of “Taps.” The event begins at 10:30 am.
The Countryside YMCA located at 1699 Deerfield Road in Lebanon Ohio is holding a Veterans Day Ceremony from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm. Kevin R. Cornelius, Special Agent In Charge will be the keynote speaker. The 122nd Army Ohio Band will play patriotic music. Flags will be presented to 3 World War II Veterans. Please RSVP to 932-1824 extension 148 as a lunch will be provided afterwards.
Springdale will be holding a special ceremony commemorating Veterans Day. The event will be held at 1 pm at the Springdale Veterans Memorial which is at the corner of Lawnview Avenue and Springfield Pike. Parking will be available at the Municipal Complex at 11700 Springfield Pike.
The 2014 Veterans Commemoration Program and Silent Auction is taking place from 5 pm – 7 pm at the Harry T. Wilks Conference Center Miami University Hamilton Campus. The Student Government Association & Student Veterans Association have sponsored a spaghetti dinner & silent auction each year. They are raising money to fund a scholarship that provides financial support to student veterans in the Criminal Justice Department. The CPL. Nicholas Olivas Valor Award was established following the death of Hamilton and Fairfield native Nicholas H. Olivas. He was killed while serving in Afghanistan. Cost is $10 per person. Veterans and children under 5 eat for free. Call 785-3020 to RSVP.
