The Lowry Team :: Cincinnati Ohio Is Best City For Recreation

Parks - The Lowry TeamThe Lowry Team often shares information on local parks and recreation.  After all, they contribute to the overall well being of a city. Neighborhood parks promote unity within the community, help boost property values, improve the general public health of its area residents and reduce the amount of pollution.

Wallethub.com compared the 100 largest United States cities and highlighted those with the most diverse opportunities for recreation, sports and culture.  Cincinnati, Ohio topped the list at number one.  Cincinnati ranked above other cities such as Orlando, Florida, St Louis, Missouri and Sacramento, California.

Cities were ranked on the following categories:  financial, parks quality, entertainment and recreational facilities, and weather conditions.  They looked at items such as cost of movies, park spending, average drink prices and affordable restaurants.  Also taken into account were the percent of park land, and the number of music venues, coffee shops and more.

Cincinnati scored 11th in the financial category, 4th in the parks quality, 1st for entertainment and recreational facilities and 58th for weather conditions. When averaged, Cincinnati, Ohio came in first place overall as the best city for recreation.  For the record, Newark New Jersey came in last place.

  • Venture beneath the streets of Cincinnati on a Queen City Underground Tour. The tour begins at 1332 Vine Street Cincinnati Ohio and takes you down to a hidden burial vault and tunnels.
  • Watch the WEBN Fireworks down by the Ohio River.  This year’s spectacular show takes place August 31st. Mark your calendars!
  • Cheer the Bearcats on to victory along with thousands of alumni and fans at University of Cincinnati’s Homecoming game.  UC hosts long time rival Miami (Ohio) at Paul Brown Stadium on September 20th.
  • Ride The Banshee, Kings Island’s newest roller coaster. Kings Island amusement park is in Mason Ohio.  It has more than 80 rides and attractions, including The Banshee that has 7 inversions and a speed of almost 70 mph.
  • Enjoy an ice cream at The Cone. Located at 6855 Tylersville Road West Chester Ohio, The Cone was voted by AOL as “One Of The Top 10 Quirkiest Places To Visit In The United States.”  The unique building and activities have made the Cone a popular Cincinnati destination.
  • Take  cruise down the Ohio River on a B & B Riverboat.  They offer sight seeing, dining and kids cruises.  Take your pick!

Taste of OTR - The Lowry TeamThe 2nd annual Taste of Over The Rhine (OTR) takes this Saturday, July 26th from 11 am  – 11 pm at Washington Park in Over The Rhine. Washington Park is located at 1230 Elm Street Cincinnati Ohio 45202.  Taste of OTR will feature live music, food and samples and merchandise to purchase.  Some of the food vendors include Tom & Chee, Taste of Belgium, Washington Platform Saloon and Restaurant, Dojo Gelato and many more. Examples of merchandise vendors are Caricatures By Over The Line and Barbara’s Atlas Oils.  Children can get their faces painted and participate in Bluegrass for Babies.  Parking is available on the street or in the Washington Park Garage.

Over The Rhine is Cincinnati‘s oldest and most historic neighborhood.  It is home to the largest collection of 19th century Italianate architecture.  Besides being a historic district, OTR is known for its arts community.  Over The Rhine was named Best Cincinnati Neighborhood by CityBeats Best Of Cincinnati 2011 and 2012.

The Lowry Team - Buckle Up FestivalIf  you are not one of the lucky ones attending the sold out Jason Aldean concert at Great American Ball Park, like our Buyer Specialist Lisa Tesmer, you are still in luck!  It has been brought to our attention by Darryl Smith, Buyer Specialist for The Lowry Team, that there is an entire country music festival happening downtown this weekend.  

The Buckle Up Music Festival is a 3 day, 6 stage country music festival taking place July 18th-July 20th.  The festival is being held at Sawyer Point/Yeatman’s Cove, 705 East Pete Rose Way Cincinnati Ohio 45202.  Performers include Alabama, Willie Nelson, The Band Perry, Alison Krauss, Eli Young, Eric Paslay and many, many more. Concerts will be held from 2 pm-11:30 pm Friday and Saturday and 2:00 pm – 10:15 pm on Sunday.  

The event could also be considered a food and beer festival because of the large number and variety of vendors. Sample food from C’est Cheese, Eli’s BBQ, Island Noodles and Taste of Belgium to name a few.  Visit the craft beer and distillery villages and purchase souveniers from multiple vendors.  

Tickets can be purchased on line or at the gate.  The ticket box office opens at 1 pm each day.  A one day ticket costs $69 and a three day ticket costs $154.  Whether it is Jason Aldean with Miranda Lambert and Florida Georgia Line or the Buckle Up Music Festival, members of The Lowry Team are definitely going to “get their country on” this weekend!

Wake Nation - Foto Friday - The Lowry TeamWake Nation, located at 201 Joe Nuxhall Way Fairfield Ohio 45014 is the first and only cable wake park in the Tri-State area.  Beginners and experienced riders can wake board, water ski, knee board or water skate on the 10 acre lake, all without a boat.  The main lake can tow up to 6 riders at a time.  Each person is towed by cables located high above the water through a course of sliders and rails.  If a rider falls, they simply swim to the outer shore, head back to the line and go again.  There is a practice pond for beginners and young riders to get started on.  There is the opportunity to work one on one with an instructor and ask plenty of questions.  It is recommended that beginners start with a knee board to get acclimated.  At any time riders can switch to the main lake and change equipment.  

Other features of Wake Nation in Fairfield include a large observation deck, pro shop and concession stand. New this year is the Aqua Glide Water Park.  It is an inflatable water park that includes jungle gyms, slides, trampolines and more.  Play for one hour for just $5 or all day for $14.  Price includes a life vest.

Wake Nation is open on Mondays from noon – 8 pm and Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am – 8 pm.  A 2 hour pass costs $30 and a rental package is $22.  You may bring your own equipment to use.  Season passes, group rates, birthday parties and summer camps are all available. Bring your bathing suit, a towel and a friend to Wake Nation!

Thursday, July 17th –

  • After Hours on the Square presents Midnight Special.  Concert runs from 6 pm – 9 pm at 9100 West Chester Towne Center Drive West Chester Ohio 45069.  Stop by for live music, beer, and fun!
  • Bridgewater Falls has their Farmers Market from 5 pm – 8 pm.  The market is held at the Village Pavilion, 3385 Princeton Road Fairfield Township Ohio 45011.

Friday, July 18th – 

  • The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra performs at Ameritas, 1876 Waycross Road Forest Park Ohio 45240. The Concert On The Green opens at 6 pm for lots of family fun including obstacle courses and a classic car show.  The orchestra performs from 8 pm – 10 pm and is followed by fireworks.  This event is free.
  • The Spicy Olive located at 7671 Cox Lane West Chester Ohio 45069 has a wine tasting on Fridays and Saturdays.  Go to their Uncorked Fine Wine and Beer Shoppe inside the store from 4 pm – 8 pm on Friday or noon – 5 on Saturday to participate.  Pours are $1-$2 each.

Saturday, July 19th –

  • Cheer competitors on at the Crazy Cardboard Regatta at Voice of America Metro Park, 7850 Voice of America Park Drive West Chester, Ohio 45069.  Teams race cardboard boats that they designed.  The event is from 10 am – 3 pm.  Stop by for racing, food and more!
  • Farmers Market On The Square is from 9 am – 1 pm.  Bring your family and furry friends to 9100 West Chester Town Center Drive West Chester Ohio to purchase fresh bread, produce and other products.
  • The Ohio Valley Big Band is performing at the amphitheater in Keehner Park,7211 Barrett Road West Chester Ohio 45069 from 7 pm – 9 pm.  The event is part of the 5/3 Bank West Chester Concert Series.  The event is free.  Alcohol is not permitted in the park.

All Weekend (Friday – Sunday) –

  •  Schutzenfest is taking place all weekend long at The Kolping Center located at 10235 Mill Road Springfield Township Ohio 45240.  It is open Friday, July 18th from 6 pm – midnight, Saturday from 4 pm to midnight and Sunday from 1 pm – 9 pm.  Enjoy German food, beer, booths, entertainment, rides and games. Cost is $3 and free for kids fifteen years old and under.
